It is our pleasure to host the first annual Senior Summit 2006 Conference on Aging on April 24th and 25th at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa. A warm, northern Michigan welcome is extended to all conference speakers, guests, attendees, and their families.

Be Wise: Preventing Fraud, Scams, and Financial Exploitation

Special guest speaker, Jenefer Duane, President and Chief Executive Officer of the San Francisco based Elder Financial Protection Network, will be presenting a demonstration model for Financial Institutions focused on Recognizing and Reporting Financial Abuse at the 2006 Conference on Aging on Monday, April 24th at the Grand Traverse Resort in Traverse City, Michigan. Ms. Duane has worked
in the field of elder advocacy for over 20 years. She co-founded EFPN in August, 2000. In 2003, Ms. Duane produced EFPN’s ‘Be Wise’ video training program which has received three international awards. 

Ms. Duane provides training and presentations for financial institutions employees, law enforcement and bank regulatory agencies, adult social service providers, elder advocacy and consumer groups. She is a frequent keynote speaker and presenter at conferences, symposiums and workshops throughout the State of California and beyond. California Attorney General Bill Lockyer presented Ms. Duane with the 2003 Distinguished Service Award for Elder Abuse Prevention. She also served on the Advisory Council for the Attorney General’s Statewide Public Awareness Campaign on elder abuse. In 2005,   Ms. Duane was recently nominated for the Beacon Award by the California Credit Union League for her outstanding achievement in the area of financial literacy.

Diane Hill Taylor - AARP Washington, DC
Topic: Consumer Advocacy, Policy, and Protection

Diane Hill Taylor serves as Director of Livable Communities in Outreach and Service at the national office of AARP in Washington, DC. She is responsible for providing strategic direction and guidance in the development and delivery of information / education for the 50+ consumer. She also leads efforts to engage AARP members in meaningful volunteer opportunities that help achieve AARP housing and mobility goals. In this role, Diane provides leadership for one of AARP’s most successful volunteer programs, the AARP Driver Safety Program, a 25+ year old driver refresher course that attracts about 700,000 participants a year.

Diane has been with AARP for 16 years, serving in several leadership capacities, including Director of Community Service Programs, Director of Planning and Innovation, State Representative for North Carolina and the District of Columbia, and program coordinator for Volunteer Training and Community Programs.  Prior to her employment with AARP, Diane served as Assistant Project Director for community Oriented Policing and Field Researcher at the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), a national membership organization of police chiefs in Washington.  She also served on the staff at two universities in Virginia - Hampton Institute and Virginia Union University - where she taught social work and directed two federally-funded gerontology programs.  Diane has a Masters in Social Work from Temple University with a concentration in planning and administration and has more than 25 years of experience of working with our senior population.

Elinor Ginzler, III - AARP Washington, DC
Topic: Livable Communities: Wave of the Future

Elinor Ginzler is Director for Livable Communities in the Office of Social Impact at AARP. She is responsible for the development of multi-year strategic plans to achieve social impact goals for AARP in the areas of Mobility and Housing, and driving the execution of annual operational plans, using matrix management cross association working groups.  Since joining AARP in 1998, Ms. Ginzler has been a key leader in AARP independent living/long-term care efforts and has been instrumental in planning, designing, coordinating and overseeing programmatic work in these areas.

With over 20 years experience in service delivery systems to the elderly, she has an extensive work history in program management and development, as well as experience in working collaboratively with public, private non-profit and community-based organizations. She is an expert on long-term care issues, including home and community-based services, caregiving, nursing home quality and other long-term care housing issues.  She has served on several boards and task forces including the Eldercare Locator Advisory Committee, the Board of Directors for the National Citizens’ Coalition for Nursing Home Reform, the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission and the Board of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. In addition, she is co-author with Hugh Delehanty of Caring for Your Parents –The Complete AARP Guide, published by Sterling Publishing.  Ms. Ginzler holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and completed her graduate studies at the University of Maryland.
